It’s so easy to be reactionary. Life brings us different circumstances, different stimuli, and we simply react to them: be happy when nice things happen, and not so happy when bad things happen.
We allow our fears to drive us. We do things to avoid certain outcomes, pushing against that which we do not want.
A reactionary life is one stuck in a script. You’re like an actor playing out a part.
The thing is, if you always react to life, you’ll always get the same results.
if you always react with fear to, say, the delivery of a bill, then that event will often result in a reason to be fearful.
You have to be willing to rewrite your own script. You have to be willing to act differently, to think and feel differently.
When you feel that fear, you have to ask yourself, “Is this what I want? If not, what is it I do want in this situation?”
You have to realize that it is your own way of thinking and feeling which are dictating how life turns out. Nothing from the outside can possibly have the power to threaten you or steal your happiness.
This maybe sounds like the opposite advice to what I gave the other day: to simply let go and stop trying to control.
But it’s not at all. There is a great amount of power in letting go.
Letting go includes letting go of your reactions — of the script you’ve been living by.
And deciding that you will feel differently does not mean you are trying to control life. To the contrary, the reason we react the way we do almost always comes from the underlying desire to control things.
When we decide at last to feel a different way, it’s not in order to try to manipulate life to give us something different. That would only be another type of reaction.
And indeed that is quite possibly why many people fail with the law of attraction: they replace one reaction with another, still just trying to control life.
To let go is to give up all reaction. It’s not to resign yourself to whatever life decides to throw at you. It’s to choose not to play the game at all. It’s to choose happiness no matter what.
When I hear people ask, “How do I manifest?” I know they are really asking, “How can I react differently to get a different result?”
But they’re still playing the game. They’re still giving up their power to something external believing it can help them to be happy.
When you can let go of all that and decide to be happy now, decide that nothing has power over you, then everything is different.
Oh yes, the results do come. The desires do manifest.
But they no longer have a hold over you. You are at the center of your own vortex of empowerment and, ironically, true control.
I am offering a class this Saturday called, Stop Manifesting; Start Allowing.
It’s all about how to change the type of results you’re getting, by refusing to play the game at all.
It’s about how to take control, by giving up the need for control.
