Recently I offered a free Q&A webinar where readers got the chance to ask me anything about the law of attraction, magick, spirituality, etc. We had some great questions!
I thought I would split the webinar into individual questions and post them as blog posts, so everyone got to see the answers.
Our first question was from Stefanie. She asked: “How do you know if you are in the flow of manifestation? Do you feel differently inside or will you notice by the changes happening in your outer world?”
Listen to her question and my answer in the video below, or go here to view the entire webinar replay.
We’ve been talking a lot about the flow and being centered in the Tao in the [mepr-membership-link id=”11077″/] course that is still ongoing.
But when you’re in the flow, you get to the point where you can really feel it. You really have to be attuned to your emotions, because it’s your emotions that will show you how in the flow you are.
When you’re in the flow, it feels effortless. It feels easy. It feels like the Universe is supporting you. I know that’s not really a feeling, but it really does feel like you have this underlying support behind you.
You start to see things working out in your outer reality. Coincidences and synchronicities will happen. Things will click into place. Life will just start to get easier.
But it’s also really defined by what it’s not. When you’re not in the flow, things are hard. You feel like you’re hitting your head against a brick wall. It seems like there’s nothing but struggle and resistance. That’s your sign that you’re not in the flow. And I’m sure you’ve experienced that from time to time.
It’s most common when you’re obsessing over something that you really want. You can’t stop thinking about it, and so you can’t let it go. I’ve done that plenty of times before.
If you’re doing that, you’re not in the flow. In the flow, it feels effortless. It’s when you don’t need the thing to happen.
This transition from feeling like you need the desire to realizing you don’t need it, is the hardest step for most people to take. It really feels like you need it, and obviously you don’t. If you feel like you need a manifestation, you’re not in the flow because you never need a manifestation in order to be happy.
Your happiness never depends on things, and you can never create from a place of solving a problem. So if you think, “I need more money because I can’t pay the bills, and so I need to manifest this money as quickly as possible,” you’re totally in the wrong place. It’s not going to work.
And the more you push forward in that space of desperation, the less in the flow you are.
The best thing to do is unfortunately the most counterintuitive thing. It’s to totally back off.
I’ve likened it in the past to those Chinese finger traps. If you resist to try to get out of it, it tightens. But if you relax and actually push into it a little bit, instead of trying to pull out of it and resist it, then it loosens up and you can just take it off.
It’s the same with manifesting. If you’re pushing forward because you feel desperate and you really need to make it work, that’s not the way to go. You might think that it’s dire— that if you don’t get this money, for example, you can’t pay the electric bill. But it simply doesn’t work.
I will tell a story I haven’t told for a long time.
When I first got started with the Law of Attraction, it was 2015. Christine and I were both on government assistance, but I was also making money from my newly formed Co-Creation Coaching at the time.
Christine had just quit her job, and I had just gotten through a temporary uptick in clients.
But what’s important to know is that with Social Security, if you make a certain amount they essentially deduct half of that from your next payment.
So all these events came together in just such a way, that in September of that year our only income was from SSI. And we got a payment on the first for less than $250.
Now I had just started learning about the Law of Attraction so knew the basics of it. I had been studying a bit of Abraham-Hicks, and had read some books from Richard Dotts.
I knew that the most important thing to do was to not panic, but to try to stay positive as much as possible. I knew that if we panicked, it’d be focusing on the negative, so we’d just get more of that lack.
So the best thing to do was just diffuse, diffuse, diffuse. Be really, really, really general about it. Be optimistic if we can be about things working out. And so that’s what I did.
I woke up on the first of September and saw the amount. And yes, I panicked for a few minutes. Seeing $200 in the bank at the beginning of the month when no other money was expected to arrive is terrifying.
But, I knew I just had to do it. I had to apply what I knew.
And somehow, we did it. Things started flowing and working out. We had enough. I even had enough to celebrate my birthday on the 21st.
to this day, I really don’t know how we got through that month. It just happened. And that was my first real experience of applying the law of attraction in a dire situation.
In that kind of situation, you want to panic— you want to force the Universe to give you what you want. If you do that, you’re out of the flow. And if you’re out of the flow, the best thing to do is just to give in, to relax, to step back for a second and just let things happen.
The less you try, the more in the flow you are. That’s the most important thing to remember here. And the more you try, effort, and struggle, the less in the flow you are.
This point is so vital because it’s so easy to want to push forward and try to make things happen.
Instead, you want to step into inspiration— into that place where the answers come from beyond the mind.
The mind only knows problems, and it has no power to solve them. That deeper place of inspiration knows no problems, so the answers flow effortlessly. Being out of the flow keeps you stuck in the mind, but being in the flow takes you into inspiration.
When you have that instinct to push forward and try really hard, to take a lot of action and visualize an hour a day, just step back and stop trying so hard. Stop putting in so much effort.
It can be infuriating because the ego wants to say, “But how am I going to get it if I stop trying?” But it’s when you relax and look away from it that it actually can come into your reality.
How About You?
Now I’d love to hear from you. Are you able to reliably get into the flow of things— to flow with the Tao? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
