The more I discover about magick and the law of attraction, the more I come to see that our job is so absolutely minute, so perfectly effortless, that we mess it up just by our need to try so hard and control things.
Imagine your hand for a moment. When it’s clenched into a fist, you’re unable to receive anything in that hand. It’s closed off to the world—inaccessible.
But when you unclench that fist and simply relax, then you have an open hand that is ready to receive anything that is dropped into it.
Now imagine the act of something desirable being dropped in your hand. How much work did you have to put forth to get that thing? Absolutely none: it was simply dropped into your open hand.
It actually takes more effort to clench your fist and close yourself off to this gift, than it does to simply open up and receive it.
That clenched fist is like your resistance. It’s like your grasping and reaching for what you want. It’s your effort, your attempt to control the Universe, your attempt to make things happen either through action or through LOA processes.
The open hand, however, represents your allowing. It is your trust in the Universe, your letting go of control and the need to make anything happen. It’s your peace with the present moment, and the knowing that all good things are coming to you. It is complete and total effortlessness.
How much work does any of this take? None whatsoever. The only “work” is in unclenching your fist and becoming an open hand to the Universe, waiting for all good things to effortlessly be dropped into your lap.
That unclenching—that letting go—can indeed appear like work sometimes, because we’re so used to being clenched—to trying, striving, grasping for what we want, that it takes some practice to actually let all of that go.
But it is my experience that all striving, reaching, and grasping simply results in more striving, reaching, and grasping. It results in negative manifestations, because you are chronically focused on lack.
But to let all that go and simply be an open hand to the Universe, is to allow all abundance to flow into your life—of money, relationships, health, perfect jobs, and all the other things you could possibly desire.
But you can’t open your hand in order to make the Universe give you these things. This is still an act of trying, of effort, and so you haven’t actually opened at all. Further, you cannot demand anything of the Universe from a place of lack and expect it to work out. The best attitude is one of being open to the gifts that the Universe has to give—to wait in positive expectation for the Universe to surprise and delight you in every possible way.
Therefore simply let go. Be OK where you are. Be an open hand to the Universe, and wait for the true magick to happen.
This is the true secret to the path of Dark Ascent. It is the path of non-doing, or wu wei. This will be the topic of my next Circle of Darkness newsletter.
In preparation for this newsletter, I’m going to do another challenge, similar to the effortlessness challenge last month. This one will be 7 days, starting tomorrow and culminating on March 31.
I will call this the 7 Day Allowing Challenge. The aim of this challenge is simply to live as an open hand to the Universe—to let go of all effort, striving, and grasping. It doesn’t mean that you can’t desire a goal, but you must remove all wanting, striving, or grasping for that goal. Simply experience the natural state of effortlessly allowing the goal to be.
I hope you’ll join me in this challenge. Much as last time, I will update you every day with my own progress, as well as answer your questions as you send them to me.
And of course, if you’d like to receive the upcoming newsletter that’ll discuss this concept in greater detail, then just click below:
