Welcome to day 7 of the 7 Day Effortlessness Challenge!
This is the final day, so I hope that it has been going well for you. No matter how it went, realize that you can challenge yourself to live in effortlessness any time. In fact, this is a habit I plan on continuing far beyond the end of the challenge.
Yet, effortlessness is not the whole story. It’s the majority of it, and indeed it’s what a lot of people are lacking, including myself at times, which is why I’ve focused on it this week.
But true creative power is about a balance between these two elements: effortlessness and desire/will.
On one hand, effortlessness calls you to flow with the Tao, while desire calls you to ask for more.
There’s a quote from Abraham-Hicks that I’ve always really enjoyed: they say that the best attitude toward life is “satisfied with what is and eager for more.” This perfectly illustrates this balance.
“Satisfied with what is” is this effortlessness. It means that we’re surrendered to the moment, enjoying what’s here right now.
“Eager for more” is the element of desire or will. It’s the part of us that always wants more, that asks for something new that we’ve never had before, or even more of what we already have. More money, more happiness, more love, more abundance, etc.
These two elements balance each other perfectly. You must allow yourself to be eager for more—to reach for that next step. But then once you’ve asked for that next step, you surrender back to effortlessness, trusting that it will naturally bring you to the more that you have asked for.
And then the cycle starts all over again: you ask for even more, surrender and reach it, and ask for more yet again.
Effortlessness comprises the great majority of this process: the actual asking should not take much of your focus at all. But do not be fooled into thinking that you must shut down your desire and just always be effortless. That’s not how it works. You will desire, and desire is natural. But then you must be willing to let go and return to the Flow.
Still, endeavor to live most of your life in this place of effortlessness, reaching for more when you feel inspired to. Most of your time, however, will be here in effortlessness.
If you can do this, you will always become happier and happier, more and more successful in all the ways you desire.
