If you let go enough, you’ll find yourself being pulled into certain directions in life. You’ll be pulled to live a certain way, react a certain way, think a certain way.
This is the work of the objective universe.
Not all of these things are bad, to be sure, but they’re not all great, either. The objective universe isn’t concerned about you being the absolute happiest you could possibly be, just with things being in order and aligning as they should.
This all should be self-evident with a bit of exploration. Look back at the past few years of your life. Notice the subtle influences you’ve been subjected to, whether you’ve followed them or not. Notice the seeming random directions your life has sometimes seemed to take.
The objective universe has as its goal bringing you into alignment with itself. If you were a white magician, you would encourage these subtle influences, and even help things along by lessening your own egoic desires and free will, and surrendering more to the objective universe.
But perhaps these subtle influences weren’t what you wanted. Perhaps your life doesn’t look entirely like you’d prefer for it to look.
A few months ago Christine and I were fairly happily living in Olean, NY. It was comfortable, we knew people there, and she had a decent job.
But we made the decision to move to my hometown of Johnstown, PA.
As the decision was made, you could almost immediately feel the pull and resistance of the objective universe. We were, after all, pretty comfortable. Wouldn’t it just be easier to keep things as they were?
Indeed, we had tried to make this decision several times before, but the inertia of the objective universe won out and we stayed.
And indeed the objective universe is all about inertia. Perhaps it will go somewhere, but it is only ever where the natural inertia will take you.
So we made the decision, persisted in it, and moved at the beginning of January.
A decision is a scary thing. We could have moved into a worse house, or into circumstances we weren’t happy with. But I did extensive magickal work to ensure that wouldn’t happen, and we couldn’t be happier now.
This simple act of seeing what the objective universe is trying to push on you, and saying “No, I’d rather have this,” is the most basic act of black magick, but black magick it definitely is.
As you make your decision, the objective universe will try to persuade you to stick with what’s comfortable. You then have a choice: relinquish your will to the objective universe and remain where you are, or assert your will, holding out against the objective universe, and make the change you desire to make.
This is where black magick begins. You need no creepy rituals or dark demonic entities to perform a working of black magick, though these can definitely be introduced as well. All you need to begin is a sheer act of will in defiance of the objective universe.
If you’d like to learn how to assert your own will in your life, my upcoming Circle of Darkness Newsletterwill show you exactly how to do that. It’ll give you exclusive techniques to assert your will and minimize the resistance of the objective universe.
