I’ve been at this law of attraction thing for nearly three years now.
And in that time, I’ve learned some invaluable lessons, and have manifested some wonderful results.
But I’ve also gotten all too familiar with the majority of what’s out there in the LOA community. And without wanting to criticize any particular source, well the offerings are meager at best.
Most of it is just about how to make the Universe give you what you want NOW, using some trick of visualization, or another random technique.
Most of it is focused on, well as Abraham would put it, how to get your stuff.
And of course, I mean this is the law of attraction after all.
But the more deeply I’ve delved into the law of attraction, the more I see that something is missing.
You may have seen the same if you’ve been at this for a while, or perhaps you haven’t.
It’s hard to really put that sense into words, but I feel as though the LOA merely scratches the surface—merely dabbles in power which is far beyond what anyone could have imagined.
The law of attraction, when practiced properly, naturally leads deeper into this mystery.
But, though it calls you deeper, there’s no way of actually acting on that calling with the materials available to you in traditional LOA resources.
So, after a while, you get to this place where you feel like this isn’t quite enough. There must be something more, and yet all the LOA resources out there just tell you that feeling good is enough, and that’s what your whole life is about.
But personal experience says otherwise.
If you agree, then I will try to show in this post what I’ve discovered, as a path from the LOA to something deeper, which still respects the same teachings, while simultaneously taking them to the next level.
The Problem Defined
As I said above, the deeper I have gotten into the law of attraction, the more I’ve felt the calling for something more, but didn’t know quite how to get there.
How was this calling felt?
The best way I can describe it is that as I learned to successfully manifest, and as the Universe brought me wonderful results, I felt like I was being pulled into a co-creative relationship—a partnership if you will—with something far greater and more vast than merely some mechanical Universal process.
The way most of us see the LOA is as some Universal law that just causes what we want to come to us—sort of like a vending machine, where once you’ve put in the right amount of money and pressed the right button, you get out the desired snack.
But once you actually experience the manifestation of your desires, in such a perfect way, you feel your mind touched by something greater, something intelligent, not merely a set of processes that you have set in motion.
This calling for me has attempted to express itself in multiple forms over the last few years.
First, in early 2016 there was the time I would rather not discuss, where I briefly studied Islam. There was certainly a beauty there, but also the exoteric rules and dogmas that sapped the whole thing of any life it had.
But then in late 2016, I started an exploration of magick, and started discussing the gods and goddesses and how to open up to them.
It was at that time I discovered my connection to Hades, and though I never discuss it here, I still work with him to this day.
That helped a lot to express what I was feeling, but there are so many magickal traditions, it was hard to find one that really resonated with me the most, and then to learn about it sufficiently to really do something with it.
Eventually, I came back to more or less traditional LOA. Sometimes I’d express those ideas in more non-dual terms, but the more non-dual paths deny our desires too much, and put too much of an emphasis on the transcendent.
For the last year, I’ve worked hard to keep this blog as inviting as possible to as many people as possible seeking for information on the law of attraction.
I didn’t want to have some far out there information on magick, gods and goddesses, and then alienate someone who just wanted to manifest their partner back.
But to be honest, I’m tired of staying on the surface, with that which is so shallow and insignificant.
It’s as though you’ve waded knee-deep into the ocean, but then refuse to explore beyond that. There’s a whole wonderful world out there, a deep ocean of possibilities, which we are refusing to explore to the fullest possible extent.
Every day I work with people who want this or that desire, and that’s perfectly fine: that’s my job as a coach to help you to get that.
But the frustrating part is that most people are hanging on to that desire for dear life, not letting it go to the Universe to manifest, all because they cannot fathom happiness beyond the desire.
And this is a symptom of staying on the surface as I mentioned. You’re told to feel good just to feel good, not to get your desire, but from the perspective of traditional LOA, you can’t see why you might want to actually do that—what the purpose of that is beyond, again, getting your stuff.
It’s this self-perpetuating cycle of need and desire, that very few can successfully escape from the context of the LOA.
A few days ago I sent out an email to my subscribers talking about moving beyond just manifesting this or that, into the idea of crafting your entire life in co-creation with the Universe. Having a broader vision of what you want in life, not just the narrow vision of what you’re trying to get now.
I want to be clear, I’m not condemning anyone for wanting stuff. I want lots of things.
What I’m saying is that as long as you are doing all this for the purpose of getting that stuff, and don’t allow the mysteries of the Universe to pull you deeper into the wonder of life, you’re unlikely to let go sufficiently to really let the big things come.
And as long as you think life is about getting those big things, then you’ve missed the forest for the trees. The “stuff” should be icing on the cake, not the main course. If it’s the main attraction for you, you’re far too attached to really allow it in.
My Story
If you’re still with me, I applaud your dedication, and hopefully that indicates that you, too, want more, or at least you want to see where all of this is going.
For a moment I’m going to discuss my own journey and where it’s led recently. By doing this I’m not at all saying you have to take the same steps, or that my steps are the right steps for everyone, or anything like that.
So, let’s rewind to a time 20 years ago, when I was nine years old.
Religiously, I was technically Christian. We went to a Methodist church most Sundays, or at least we did until the pastor we liked moved away, then we stopped going so much.
But beyond that I really didn’t know much, nor did it play a role in my everyday life.
I remember in second grade asking some friends what religion they were, but the universal answer was just, “Christian”. I don’t even know if I knew there was anything else out there at that point.
So again, I’m nine years old, and my older cousin, I think about 16 at that time, was studying Wicca.
And for whatever reason, one day when she was babysitting me, she decided to talk to me about it. She talked to me about how Jesus wasn’t really born on Christmas, how most Christian celebrations and symbols really come from Paganism, and so forth.
And to say my mind was blown is a massive understatement. Again, I didn’t believe in much, but to hear that there was another religion out there, and that that religion was actually the source of most of the symbols of my religion, was just a huge revelation to me.
And I knew at that time, that if there was at least one other religion out there, that meant that what I believed wasn’t necessarily true, and actually probably wasn’t true if it was stolen from somewhere else.
And that began easily the happiest time of my childhood. I dove into Wicca like a man starving. I think it must have been in the summer then, because I remember spending hours every day just reading, reading, reading on as much as I could. Fortunately, I had just recently learned how to use a computer, so I was all set.
And this quite literally opened up a whole new world for me that I never knew existed. Magick, rituals, the cycles of the Moon and of nature, energy, astral projection, spirit guides: you name it and I studied it.
And I studied it proudly. I remember being in 6th grade in school and openly wearing a pentacle, and when on the first day of school my teacher asked all of us to share one surprising thing about ourselves, I said in a loud, confident voice, “I’m psychic!”
But I soon ran into a practical limitation: I was a 10 or 11 year old Wiccan, with only random online resources as my guide: no real people to show me the way. I did get onto a few good mailing lists I remember, but still, for the practical elements of ritual and other celebration, I was lost.
So over time I wandered into other studies: Wicca turned to general Paganism, turned to ceremonial magick, and then from there I started studying Hinduism and Buddhism.
And then after that started what I’d call the dark period of my childhood, when a coworker of my mother’s strongly encouraged me to read the Bible, which initiated roughly a 4 year period of closing down all that I had previously opened.
You don’t need my entire life story, of course, but those first two or three years of exploration were without doubt the happiest and freest of my childhood, and even much of my adulthood to date.
I attempted to study Wicca / Paganism again a few times over the years. But over the years I also became rather cynical. I thought, “Why should I put any trust in a religion that was just really founded some 70 odd years ago?” Or even, “Who’s to say any of these rituals really have any inherent power? People probably just made them up back when the Golden Dawn was founded and everyone just stuck with it.”
So I couldn’t let myself re-experience that previous wonder, because my mind was just too much in the way.
And also there were still the practical limitations: certainly as an adult I had far more leverage to find the resources I needed, but I still knew next to no Wiccans/Pagans/occultists, so the things I tried to practice felt inauthentic, since I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it.
In time I came to the law of attraction. That same skeptic side tried to reassert itself, but in short order I saw that the law of attraction really worked. And it, unlike these other practices, didn’t require any physical component: I could do the whole thing in my head.
So that was obviously rather attractive initially. And so, barring some brief exceptions, the LOA has been more or less my spirituality as well as my practice over the last 3 years.
And again, to great result. I’ve discussed at length in the past the things I’ve manifested.
But it was still unsatisfying on some level, for the reasons discussed earlier in this post. It felt like there should be more.
Opening to Wicca
Well, recently I have been studying Wicca again.
But with the things I’ve learned in the past, I knew I had to do it differently. If you do the same thing over again, you’re likely to get the same result.
Fortunately I’ve been able to tame that cynical side over the last few years. It still pops up to the surface from time to time, but not nearly as much as before.
The last time I studied Wicca, back in 2016, I tried to find some local Wiccans to learn from. That didn’t go so well: we did find one person trying to run an informal circle, but she was far younger than us, and her age was reflected in her maturity level.
I thought, perhaps if I find a comprehensive online course on Wicca, that’d at least give me the grounding I need to expand upon.
But I found so much more than that. I found a whole online coven, which also has a comprehensive study program spanning a minimum of three years (if you do all three degrees; it’s a year and a day for each degree). It’s called Sacred Mists.
I started their first degree program, and so far it’s everything I knew was missing from my previous attempts: comprehensive lessons teaching me every aspect of Wicca, a supportive environment to grow in, and a lot of other people to communicate with and learn from directly.
I’m also taking another course alongside that, which teaches some of the deeper concepts of Wiccan spirituality, called A Year and a Day, from Wicca Spirituality.
As I’ve been doing this, I’ve been feeling that old sense of wonder and possibilities opening up within me. I feel my connection with the rest of the Universe, with nature and all that is.
I’ve realized the importance of having this connection, because it’s exactly that missing part for which I’ve searched for so long.
What specifically do I like in Wicca that is missing from the LOA?
- An awareness of and connection with the cycles of nature, found in the Wiccan Wheel of the Year and the celebration of the phases of the Moon
- A connection with the Divine, not just the mechanical laws of the Universe: including the God and Goddess (Divine Masculine and Feminine), in whichever form they might take for each individual
- More powerful tools to work magick, which the LOA does not provide, such as ritual; the mechanics of raising energy; correspondences for herbs, crystals, colors, and so forth to strengthen belief
- And simply, a spiritual framework and larger vision of life
It gives me a context in which to practice the law of attraction, and a reason to believe that what I want is really possible.
The beautiful thing is that, at least in my view, Wicca, or the spirituality encouraged in Wicca, is the fullest embodiment of what we’re practicing in the law of attraction.
What do I mean by that?
Wicca is not about transcending the ego, as the East tends to be.
In fact, Wicca is all about embracing the material. After all, the Goddess is found in matter, in manifestation, in sensuality.
So the type of worldview espoused by Abraham, of enjoying our desires and feeling good, is exactly what the Goddess is all about.
In fact, the only law in Wicca is: “An’ it harm none, do what ye will.”
In other words, do what you want, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone.
And what does Abraham say? If you’re aligned with your Inner Being, you will never harm another.
But Wicca takes things to another level entirely.
Because it’s not just saying to do whatever. It’s saying, do what you will.
How many people actually know what their will is? They live in reactivity to life.
So it causes you to ask yourself, “What is my will?”
And then, once you discover that, you carry it out. You do whatever it is that you will.
It’s nearly identical to Aleister Crowley’s Law of Thelema: “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”
Really there is no difference, because Crowley believed that if you were doing your true will, you could never harm another. The Wiccan Rede simply makes that more explicit.
So Wicca added to the law of attraction looks like this:
- Do what you want, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone
- You have the power to create anything, in co-creation with the Divine (God and Goddess)
- You may call that power LOA, magick, or witchcraft as you choose
- You can use any number of tools to create, from visualization, to affirmations, to spells and all out rituals
- The more elaborate the tool, the more energy you will raise and the faster your desire will likely come
- We are parts of the whole, and that whole includes nature, with all its cycles
- Those cycles affect us, because we are an integral part of nature, and therefore tuning ourselves to those cycles can only benefit us
As you see, the two perspectives fit perfectly together, and I’d say even complement one another.
What Is Next?
Now by no means am I saying you should go out and be a full-fledged Wiccan or Pagan.
What I’m saying is that there is something missing in the law of attraction. For me, Wicca filled in that missing piece.
You have to ask yourself where you are really going, and whether the law of attraction on its own can get you there.
Is it enough just to want this thing or that?
Again in my experience, it’s not. There is clearly value in the law of attraction, but its natural progression is cut off through ignoring this missing element.
This post has been about bringing your attention to that missing piece, and challenging you to find the best way for you to fill that in. Whether that’s Wicca, paganism, or simply even becoming more aware of the Divine around you, and more in tune with the cycles of the Universe, that’s totally up to you. You are responsible for your own path.
But this is also about me and my journey, and the realization that I can no longer hold back who I am just because I want this blog to appeal to traditional LOA.
I self-identify as a witch and a Wiccan, or at least one in training. 😉
And as this blog is a reflection of me, so I will discuss those elements here as well.
There will certainly still be many posts on traditional LOA, perhaps with a Wiccan flare added here and there, but there will also be more posts on magick/witchcraft, gods and goddesses, and much more.
If you’re into that sort of thing, then awesome! If you’re curious but unsure, then you’re welcome to read. And if it’s not your thing at all, then feel free to ignore those posts. 🙂
A Full Moon Gift
Now today is the full moon, specifically the Wind Moon.
To start off this new focus of mine with a bang, Christine and I developed a guided meditation to help you to connect with the energies of this full moon.
The specific intentions for this meditation is to help you renew motivation for a goal or project you might have not been focusing on so much, or for which you have lost motivation.
After the guided visualization, there is also a light language transmission from both Christine and myself, to channel the energies of this full moon for highest effectiveness.
You can download it for free by clicking below:

How About You?
Now it’s your turn. Have you noticed this missing element to the law of attraction? How have you resolved that in your own life? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
P.S.: Don’t forget to go download the 2018 Full Wind Moon meditation. Go get it here!
Hi Brandon,
What you are describing in the beginning of this post could be labeled “ascension.” Or more simply, “awakening.” I completely relate to all of this, and I just wanted you to know that I consider what you write to be some of the most interesting and probing stuff on the LoA that I’ve seen. Thank you for taking the time to delve deeper, and keep doing what you’re doing 🙂
Thanks so much @IzzyV:disqus! Your comment is very much appreciated.
I find what you say interesting. Ascension is something I’ve not really taken seriously in the past. But it sort of makes sense the way you put it here. So many changes have been happening in my own life of late, some painful and others exhilarating. I always try to be as honest and open as possible here on this blog.
It’s a mysterious process that’s difficult to explain to anyone that hasn’t experienced it. From my understanding, a catalyst generally initiates it (in my case it was a relationship, then seeing 11:11, all that stuff etc). Which eventually brings you to the LoA, which I feel is only a piece of the puzzle, as you seem to be leaning towards as well. As a personal example, I have also been going through very intense changes, and they are absolutely correlating to a lot of astrological occurrences (eclipses in my sign spurring change just to skim the surface). It all seems to be a system of interlocking gears that will eventually make more sense as I learn more, and eventually (hopefully) ascend completely? If that can be done? Lol. All I can really do is simply try to listen to what the universe tries to tell me. I often willfully disobey it, but that’s another story 😉
But again, thank you, I really do appreciate your work.
Thanks again. It makes sense. I think my changes started in late 2016. That’s when the LOA actually started working for me on a regular basis. I mean the difference was night and day. One day I struggle to get anything to manifest, and the next things start coming easily. It was also right in the midst of my Saturn return.
I agree (obviously) that the LOA is just a small piece of it. I think trying to use the LOA on its own is a little like trying to use the engine of a car without the car itself. It needs context.
Good luck with your own process, and I’m grateful you brought me this information today.
Thank you and good luck to you too!
I appreciate your interest in not just addressing LOA, but as it relates to enlightenment and other schools of thought. I was raised Christian and value writers such as Neville Goddard who offered a better interpretation of LOA and our human power to create in the Bible. However, I have this internal craving to connect with nature, trees, dirt and the sky as if it’s home or the source of joy. I’ve avoided Wicca, but I believe you’ve persuaded me to explore more. Thanks for posting the link to the courses. I wish you much success and hope you will continue to be true to yourself here.
