So imagine this scene:
You’re standing in front of the mirror. You take a look at your reflection, and you really don’t like the expression on your face.
So you stand there, waiting for the reflection to smile. You stand there for a minute, two minutes, five minutes… and that reflection just persistently holds on to that same expression. Though perhaps it’s looking more annoyed at this point…
Now you might think this is silly. You’ll say, “Of course I wouldn’t expect my reflection to change, unless I change myself. If I want it to smile, then I’d have to smile first.”
Yes, that’s indeed quite logical. But, you see, you’re quite likely not applying that same logic to everyday life.
Reality Is a Mirror
We live in this extremely realistic reality simulation. You could call it a hologram if you like, or a dream, or simply an illusion. It’s something the Hindus and Buddhists have known for thousands of years, and science is coming closer and closer to that same realization.
But see, our minds have this one primary job: to convince us that what we see, what we hear, what we feel, out there in the world, is REAL.
But it’s not true.
What we see out there in so-called “reality” is simply a reflection, no more real than the reflection in your mirror.
But whereas the mirror reflects your physical appearance back to you, this reality reflects back to you your own inner state.
If you see lack out there in the world, taking physical action to fix that lack is like glaring at the mirror until the reflection smiles. It’s never going to work.
But, if you realize that the lack you see out there is just a reflection of the lack you are feeling within, and then you take steps to change how you feel, only then will the outside change.
And that goes for anything you might see. Scarcity, insecurity, loneliness, sickness—the list goes on and on.
Are You Trying to Manage Your Reflections?
Most people in this world are reflection managers.
What I mean by that is that they live their lives trying to manage the reflections in the mirror of reality. They try to earn more money to change the reflection of lack, they try to get into a relationship to fix the reflection of their loneliness, they try to go on vacation or buy nice things to change the reflection of unhappiness.
And yet it seems, no matter how much they try to get more money, there the reflection of lack still remains. And however much they try to find the best romantic partner for them, still the reflection of loneliness lingers. And however many nice things they buy, still there is the reflection of unhappiness.
Are you such a reflection manager? Are you living your life trying to change the reflections in your reality?
Logically, such an approach seems to make sense. If you lack money, just take action to get more money.
But that’s only true if you don’t know the true nature of our reality as a mirror.
Reality can only ever reflect back to you who you are—the vibration you are holding within.
So that means that if you are holding a vibration of lack, then reality is mirroring that lack back to you. If you go out and try to make more money, the lack will still reassert itself somehow: you’ll either spend the money unwisely, or an unexpected bill will come up that the money must be put towards, or myriad other ways that the money can be wasted. Or, you simply fail to make more money at all.
Regardless, lack will reassert itself in the end, because you are vibrating lack. As long as you are trying to make more money through action, your efforts must necessarily end in failure.
But action isn’t the only reflection management technique.
The Law of Attraction as a Reflection Management Solution
The problem is, the law of attraction is often taught, or at least understood, as a reflection management solution. “Just visualize and think positively, and you’ll get all the things you want.”
But being a reflection manager never works, no matter how much positive thinking you add to it. Even if you draw the nicest smiley face on the mirror, underneath it all is still the reflection of who you really are.
The thing is, if you are using the law of attraction to change the reflection, you are still necessarily believing the reflections are real.
You are saying, “If I think positively, then more money will come to me.” But, you don’t understand that the money itself is just a reflection of who you are.
It is true that if you authentically raise your vibration to a place of abundance, then you will get more money.
But, when you are using the law of attraction to manage your reflections, it means that you’re often pushing against the current amount of money you have.
It’s a subtle, but vital, distinction. If you use the law of attraction to change the reflections, then you’re really resisting those reflections, and therefore attuning your vibration even more to those same reflections.
In other words, if you are trying to use the law of attraction to get more money, it means that you are pushing against your current financial situation. And as you push against it, giving it your focus, so you are attuning your vibration even more to the lack you are currently experiencing.
What Is the Solution?
So we seem to be a bit at an impasse. Hopefully you understand why you can’t be a reflection manager: because reality will always reflect who you are, so any solutions based in such reality will fail to truly change anything, as long as your vibration stays the same.
But also, if you use the law of attraction to change your reality, you’re still managing reflections, and so it, too, will fail.
The solution is to raise your vibration for the purpose of feeling better, not because you are trying to make something happen.
Here’s a quote from Abraham that perfectly illustrates this:
You have to feel good for the simple reason that feeling good is natural to you, not to try to make things happen.
This quote comes from the below video, which goes into so much more detail:
When you do this work to try to make something happen, you’re keeping in mind the lack of what you want, and therefore the thing you want can never actually come to you.
Yes, the law of attraction is the solution, but not to use it in order to get something, but to use it to feel better, which will naturally result in better things coming to you.
The feeling has to precede the manifestation. If you react to the manifestation, then you are stuck, because you will only reaffirm again and again and again the reflections that you see out there, by responding emotionally to them and so tuning your vibration to be a match to them.
The difference is, “I’m going to feel better so I can have more money (or whatever else),” vs. “I’m going to feel better because I want to feel better.”
How to Stop Being a Reflection Manager
So firstly, how do you know if you are trying to manage the reflections in reality?
You know because it doesn’t feel good. It feels like stress, like anxiety, like fear, like resistance.
When I catch myself not feeling good, I ask myself, “Am I trying to manage reflections?” In other words, “Am I trying to manipulate reality to make myself feel better?” “Am I pushing against what is?” The answer is generally yes.
So when I realize I’m doing that, I just back off a bit. Even just noticing that I’m doing that is enough to stop.
So ask yourself, are you trying to manage reflections in this moment? Are you trying to make reality other than it is?
If you are, can you let that go?
That doesn’t mean that you can’t get what you want. All it means is that you are going about it in the wrong way. You are trying to change the mirror, instead of changing yourself.
So when you realize you are trying to manage those reflections, say to yourself, “That’s not how reality works. I have no power on the outside, because all of my power is within. Managing the reflections will only result in frustration, because reality can’t help but to reflect who I’m being and the vibration I’m holding.”
Then look within. What vibration are you holding? Where is your focus right now? And work on shifting that to something even just a bit better, by focusing on things that are easier to feel good about.
The Power of Acceptance
One of the most powerful things we can do to stop managing reflections, is to bring total acceptance to reality as it is.
People are often afraid to accept what is, because they believe that if they accept reality, then the Universe will see no need to change it.
But that’s not how it works. Resisting reality holds it in place, and therefore, acceptance allows change to happen.
It’s one of the most powerful forces we can bring to bear in the manifestation process.
I will soon be launching a class to teach you how to use the power of acceptance to create anything you want. When you learn how to properly use acceptance, all things become possible to you, because you are no longer fighting what is, and so all your energy is freed up to create what you want to create.
It’s open for prelaunch now. Just enter your email below to be notified when the class is released, and you can also receive a discount.
