Recently, I reread the book, Money, and the Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
I had read it once when I was first getting into the Abraham-Hicks materials, but was recently inspired to read it again.
And, I’m glad that I did. I was able to understand the book and their message from a completely different standpoint, which was invaluable for my own progress.
As the title suggests, this book largely discusses money, career, and other topics regarding financial abundance. Though, they also included health and physical wellbeing, for some reason.
Tell the Story of What You Want
One of the biggest points emphasized in the book is to stop telling the story of what you don’t want, and start telling the story of what you do want.
This is outlined perfectly in their technique called pivoting. Essentially, once you notice something in your reality you don’t want, you say to yourself, “Now I know what I don’t want; what is it that I do want?” And then, you turn your focus to that.
Pivoting is easily one of my favorite techniques. We spend so much time telling the story of what we don’t want, why things aren’t working out, why life is hard, etc.
And you might think that you do this in reaction to what life brings you, but in reality, life is bringing you what it is because of the stories about life you are telling.
It can be so simple. Are you telling the story of how hard it is to make enough money to get by, or perhaps shifting that to a better-feeling story? For instance, “Things are better than they were. I know that life can only get better from here.”
You have the choice of how you tell that story. Reality is not set in stone. There are infinite ways of interpreting the events you experience, and that interpretation is everything. It can cause more wanted things to come to you, or just as easily cause more unwanted things to come to you.
But, this book emphasizes the importance of being aware of the stories you are telling. Think about the words you are speaking, or the thoughts you are thinking, and determine how that story feels, about any topic.
And then, shift it to something that feels a bit better.
The Importance of Believability
However, the story has to be believable.
Affirmations are very popular with those who use the law of attraction. If you feel poor, you just use an affirmation like, “I am abundant.” If you feel worthless, you just use an affirmation like, “I am worthy.”
Seems simple enough, right?
But those affirmations, or stories, aren’t believable.
And if it’s not believable, your subconscious is going to reject it out of hand.
The law of attraction is all about gradual change. You find a story that feels a little bit better. If your current belief is, “I am worthless,” just contradicting that with its opposite won’t work.
- “There are some people who think I’m a good person.”
- “There are at least a few people who love me and believe that I am worthy.”
- “Perhaps there are some good qualities about me.”
No, perhaps these new stories aren’t completely inspiring, but they are likely going to be more believable.
And the trick is, once you can stabilize on the level of these stories, then new stories will be available to you to focus on.
But you simply can’t jump from one end of the spectrum to the other.
I’ll also use the story of being poor. You can’t simply jump to “I am abundant.” But you might choose stories like:
- “It’s nice that at least I have a roof over my head.”
- “Things are starting to get a little bit easier.”
- “I believe that everything always works out somehow.”
- “The Universe is always supporting me.”
You get the idea.
Perhaps you don’t have access to wonderful stories right now. But, that is okay. Simply be aware of the stories that you are currently telling, and work on improving those just a bit.
This book did a wonderful job of demonstrating how to do that, and showing truly how important this process is.
Finding Positive Aspects
The second process that this book focused on is finding positive aspects.
This is very similar to telling a better-feeling story, really. It is just finding positive things to focus on, instead of negative.
The news is constantly feeding us a stream of negative data points. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the negativity.
However, as we well know, the law of attraction draws to you more of whatever you are focusing on. So, if you are focusing on negative aspects of reality, you will get more and more of those. However, if you focus on the positive aspects, you will get more of the positive.
When you go to work, do you find all sorts of negative things to focus on, or can you find the positive aspects of your work situation?
If your significant other sometimes irritates you or does things you don’t like, do you focus on those aspects of your relationship, or do you find appreciation for the positive aspects?
Abraham teaches that every subject has two ends: the wanted end and the unwanted end. They liken it to a stick. Every stick has two ends. You can choose to pick it up from the wanted end of the stick, or the unwanted end of the stick.
So, if you constantly pick up the relationship stick from the unwanted end, the Universe brings you more and more things that are unwanted to you.
If you find things to hate about your job, the Universe will bring you more and more things to hate about your job.
The thing to do is to find what is going right in your reality, and focus insistently on that.
Abraham has said that if you have 9 things going wrong in life, and 1 thing going right, if you’d only focus on that 1 right thing, the other 9 would come into alignment with that higher vibration.
I don’t talk about it much, but Christine and I had a rocky start to our marriage.
We just were, and really still are, very different in many ways. And, we were letting that get between us, unfortunately, to the point where we didn’t know if we could deal with it.
In other words, we focused on everything about the relationship that was going wrong, and not so much on what was going right.
It took about two or so years for things to finally start to turn around.
Once I had an understanding of the law of attraction, I knew what the cause of this was.
Even after that, occasionally one or the other of us would allow our differences to get in the way. But, I now realized that we were focusing on the unwanted end of the stick, and the Universe was happily bringing us more and more of the unwanted.
I finally started to tell Christine, “We’re focusing on what’s wrong, and we’re getting more of what’s wrong. We need to focus on what is right in our relationship, and the things we do have in common.”
And then the Universe started to bring us more evidence of that. It got easier to feel good about the relationship more often.
And now, we are closer than ever.
Just find at least one thing that you can appreciate about whatever subject is giving you trouble. Then, every time that subject comes to mind, just redirect your focus to that one thing you can appreciate.
And, in no time at all, another positive aspect will join the first, and you can appreciate that, too. Then a third, and a fourth, and so on, will join it. And, before you know it, it will become easier and easier to feel good about this subject, and your reality will begin to shift.
The Waking Up Process
One final thing I’d like to point out about this book is the waking up process.
I’ve heard about it for some time now, but really hadn’t put it to use before now. However, Abraham really emphasized the significance of this process in Money, and the Law of Attraction.
When you go to sleep at night, all of your momentum, on all subjects, halts. Once you wake up, you have the perfect opportunity to refocus your attention. Abraham says it is just like when you are born. You can focus your attention however you want to. You don’t need to pick up that old momentum again, if you choose not to.
If you see each day as a new opportunity to feel good, then you’ll find more ways of feeling good.
Before bed, affirm to yourself that you will have a refreshing sleep, and will wake up to a new opportunity to turn your focus toward something wanted.
Then, once you wake up, just stay in bed for a moment or two, and find a few positive aspects for which you can get some positive momentum going.
It can be anything. Things you’re looking forward to that day, the comfort of your own bed, whatever.
But don’t get out of bed until you’ve begun that positive momentum.
Once the positive momentum is begun, it is much easier to keep it going.
At first, you might only be able to keep it going for a few minutes. But with practice, you can keep it going for a few hours. And eventually, you can keep it going for the whole day.
Again, if it’s hard to find anything, just find the smallest thing you can appreciate.
- “Hey, the Sun rose this morning.”
- “I can breathe.”
- “My body is working well today.”
Just find anything at all that you can feel good about for a minute or two.
Once you make a habit out of this process, positive momentum will be much easier for you. You’ll find it more natural to focus on what’s going right in your life, and not be so tempted to focus on what’s going wrong.
And really, these three processes together are so perfect.
- You start your day with positive momentum, which makes it easier to keep that positive momentum going.
- Throughout your day, you are insistent about turning your focus to the positive aspects of your reality, which strengthens this positive momentum even more.
- When you do turn your attention towards something unwanted, you immediately pivot, or tell a better-feeling story about that unwanted thing, so you can return to appreciating the positive aspects.
They easily support and strengthen one another, when used in this way.
I highly recommend reading Money, and the Law of Attraction to learn more about how to apply these processes in much more detail. The book is very extensive about how to apply these processes.

This is a good summing-up of the book. I especially like how you’ve highlighted three of the processes and outlined them in the post. Abraham-Hicks offer so many processes, it’s nice to just pick up on a couple of them instead of investigating the minute differences among the dozen or so they give in their books. Another great post!
Thanks Lisa. Yeah, they really do give a lot of processes. But I think these are the central ones taught in Money, and the Law of Attraction.
Really, a lot of the processes are very similar, once you know the intended goal of each process. And, of course, you can make up your own processes as well.
But I really recommend these ones as a foundation.
On this weekend’s webinar, I’ll be outlining an overarching process that I use. These three processes fit very well into that framework though. 🙂
Thanks as always for your comment.
