You have one powerful tool at your disposal that can enable you to create your own reality, exactly as you want to create it.
That tool is your mind.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t know how to use this tool. They use it carelessly, and subsequently create a reality that they’re not happy with.
But how can you learn to master this tool? How can you learn how to control your thoughts and create the reality you truly desire?
You need to become the gatekeeper of your own mind.
You Can’t Control Reality, At Least Not Directly
Yes, I know I talk all about how to create your own reality. And, that is all true.
But, you have to know exactly how to do so. And, trying to control outer reality is not the way.
Unfortunately, this is the way most people function. They want a job, so they send their resume to 30 places, and hope at least one gets back to them.
If some place does, they’ll often take the job, even if it doesn’t feel great to do so.
Or, someone might get into a relationship with another person, simply because that person was available. It might not feel great, but they do it anyway.
If people are mean or rude to us, we often try to blame them, or attempt to control them, so they don’t perform that unwanted behavior anymore.
I’m sure you know what I mean. I’m sure you’ve tried this kind of outward-directed action before, trying to control reality.
But, I’m sure you’ve also seen that this doesn’t work. It might get some sort of result, but not for the long-term, and not without a lot of stress.
But, we put in the hard work, because that’s what is required of us, right?
Oh, but the Universe has such an easier way of going about all of this.
The question is, why doesn’t this way work? It perhaps on the surface seems like it should, but it rarely if ever does.
Reality Is a Reflection of Your Vibration
It’s because you misunderstand what “reality” really is.
You think that reality is static—some sort of material plane with which you can interact and which you can influence, using action, of course.
We’re taught from a young age that reality is set. It is what it is, and it takes effort to change that reality.
We are here with these human bodies, as only one part of a very large world, and, so it seems, our influence is limited.
And when we are disappointed by not having as much influence as we’d like, we blame the world. We blame the wealthy, the politicians, the boss—whoever. We point that finger of blame outward.
That’s why you’re not getting results.
As Abraham likes to put it, taking outer-directed action on the world is like “a very small flea on the back of a very large dog.”
In other words, it doesn’t work. 😛
Reality is not so real as you think. What we’ll call outer reality is just a direct reflection of your vibration.
It has no “reality” in and of itself. The only reality it has is the reality you give to it, using your own vibration, and the focus of your mind.
That means that trying to manipulate reality directly is about as useful as trying to get the reflection in the mirror to change.
The reflection isn’t going to change as long as the thing it’s reflecting hasn’t changed.
And so, reality is never going to change as long as the thing it is reflecting, being your vibration, remains the same.
That is, as long as you are holding the same vibration, you are going to get the same results, no matter how much outer-directed action you take.
Because, as we know, action is just a manifestation of your current vibration, and therefore it will just bring you results that feel exactly the same as you felt when you took the action.
Inspired action is perfectly fine, because inspired action is taken when you are in a high vibration, meaning the results you get will feel good to you.
I like to say, inner reality is more real than outer reality. If you understand this basic distinction, you’ll naturally put your focus where it can have the most effect.
Simple, huh?
So, outer reality is a reflection of your vibration. But, how do you change your vibration, in order to get different results in outer reality?
The Mind: Your Focusing Tool
Yes, the mind.
So many people misuse the mind. They use it as a way to try to solve problems. But, that’s not its job.
They try to use it as a way to take logical steps, but again, that’s not its job.
Its primary job is as a focusing tool.
It is the mind, also sometimes called the ego, that can focus in a particular way.
And, in focusing in that way, on some particular vibration, it makes that vibration turn into a bigger and bigger manifestation.
Because, again as we know, when you focus on something, it gets bigger in your reality.
And as your mind is focusing on that vibration, whether it is wanted or unwanted, it will gain momentum, and quickly enter your reality.
So the mind is a wonderful focusing tool.
It’s why you came here into this life, with this mind, because it allows you to get very specific on what exactly you want.
However, as I said before, for most people, they allow the mind to rule over them, or else they believe they are the mind, and it is just the way it is.
But, the mind is just a tool.
It’s like a hammer. If used carelessly, it could do a great deal of damage. But when used as the tool it was designed to be, it is wonderfully useful.
No one would just swing the hammer around, saying the hammer is the way it is, and they can’t help it.
And no one would blame another person for the damage that the hammer caused.
That person would know how to use a hammer properly, and so use it as the tool it is meant to be.
And so it is with your mind.
If you just let the mind run rampant, it can do a great deal of harm. It can create things in your reality that you certainly would not have chosen yourself.
You can choose to blame others for the damage your mind has caused (creating a reality you’re not happy with), or you can realize you just haven’t been using the tool properly, and realize that with some training, you can start getting the results you were meant to get.
Used correctly, the mind can create literally anything you want to create. At the end of my emails from Co-Creation Coaching, I sign off with: “Anything is possible,” because I truly believe this.
If you choose to learn how, it is easy to create your own reality. You just have to learn how to use the tool of the mind properly.
Becoming the Gatekeeper of Your Mind
So how do you use the tool of your mind as it is meant to be used?
The first thing to realize is that any time you entertain some thought or feeling, you are quite literally creating reality.
I don’t mean to make you wary of your thoughts and feelings, in the least. But it is good to be aware of the power that your mind wields.
If you start worrying about your financial situation, for example, that worry is not benign.
As you allow your mind to focus on that worry, you are creating a reality where there are more and more things that feel like worry.
Now think about how much time you spend in negative feelings, and then look at the reality that you have created.
I think you’ll see that they are about the same.
So, you want to be paying attention to the types of thoughts you are entertaining.
Now please note that this does not include thoughts that simply pass through your mind, without any focusing on your part. You don’t need to be afraid of your random thoughts.
It’s only when you give your extended focus to a thought that it begins to get bigger, and turns into a manifestation.
How extended, exactly? It takes 17 seconds of persistent focus on a vibration to start momentum towards a bigger manifestation of that vibration.
So, when I say to become the gatekeeper of your mind, I am saying to be aware of what you are constantly putting your focus on.
Are you putting your persistent focus on things that feel good? If so, you will get more things in your reality that feel good to you.
Or, are you putting your persistent focus on things that feel bad? If so, you will get more things in your reality that feel bad to you.
The point is that you have to be deliberate about your focus. This is what it means to use the mind as a tool.
If you don’t like what it is focusing on, then it is up to you to change it.
The Only Thing You Can Control Is Your Mind
Oddly enough, the mind is really the only thing that you can control, and yet most people don’t even try to control the mind. Reality cannot be controlled at all, but that is what we usually try to control.
If you realize the creative potential of your mind, and act accordingly, then you will find it very easy to create your own reality.
By controlling your mind, you control your reality.
You control your mind by being mindful of what you are focusing on, moment-to-moment, throughout the day.
Once you notice that you are focusing on something that doesn’t feel good to you, then it is your job to redirect your focus to something that feels better.
I know this can be difficult at first, but it takes practice. As you continue to redirect your focus, it will get easier and easier for you to do so.
Meeting Your Creative Potential
You are not helpless. You are not a victim of the whims of life.
It’s simply that you have tried to influence reality in a way that wasn’t effective.
You do have phenomenal influence over your reality. In fact, every single experience that enters your reality, has been created by you, even if unconsciously.
If instead of trying to change what is out there, you focused on being deliberate about the focus of your own mind, your reality would turn around very quickly.
People often don’t believe me when I tell them this, but it’s 100% true. Put it to the test for yourself and find out.
If you simply applied these principles, reality would have to change. Remember, it is just the reflection. Change the vibration you hold most of the time, and the reflection has to change, even if you don’t completely believe it is possible.
If you don’t like what your mind is focusing on, change it.
How precisely do you redirect that focus? That’s where more specific techniques come in.
I teach many of these techniques in my 30-day Law of Attraction Course.

Wow, this would explain a lot. It is true then, imagination is important. This would also explain the snowball effect. With negative vibration comes more negative vibration. So, for example, if you have regrets about your past, worry about the future, think it’s too competitive to get anything, you very well can manifest noisy neighbors who seem to disrespect you and now you are living next door to a circus! One thing leads to another!
If you start easing up on yourself, if you say you are not a bad person, you did not know the past was a mistake, there are no mistakes just points where your vibration is at, you were playing and knew the Universe would take care of everything but then you got serious about it, you did not evaluate it carefully enough, you treat yourself better, you focus on peace, quiet, respect, you will get it.
I have read the accounts of other creators who have made their neighbors disappear, their new jobs appear and new opportunities appear where there seemingly were none. People think life is such a dead end! No wonder they are so frustrated! Some are complacent, though.
In an interview once, Queen Latifah was asked what she would have done if a certain thing did not work out and she said she would go on to the next thing. Her mind is always working and she expands by going out of her comfort zone. This really rang a bell with me. Louise Hay would call it an inner “ding”.
So, if good neighbors are wanted, the focus could be on peace, quiet and respect. Stop worrying about what they will do when they come home. Stop worrying about your future and what you did or did not do. Stop being so afraid. The Universe has got your back. Stop hanging out with people who focus on these things unless you are a master (if not, they may affect you so it’s best to work on your vibe first). Stick to your guns.
Great post!
Yes, perfect. 🙂
I like to see our negative manifestations as trying to help us. I talked a lot about that in the post about negative manifestations.
But I imagine them wanting us to have all the happiness we can handle, but they have the dirty job of showing us where we are still holding on to resistance. And those little negative manifestations will get bigger and bigger for us, until we get the point. They’re very useful that way.
So I like to say the Universe is so on our side, it’ll even show us when we’re headed away from our own happiness.
But yes, I’d focus on what it would feel like to have good neighbors, and stay there. Be deliberate about your vibration. Don’t let anyone decide that for you.

This post definitely makes me want to focus my thoughts in an opposite direction. I often find myself asking how I manifested certain things in my reality when I don’t remember really focusing on it ( negative things).
You mentioned earlier how we try to control our outer reality. For example, if someone is looking for job and sends out heaps of resumes to get a call back. How does this work in terms of not trying to control our outer reality? If no action was taken, how would we manifest a job? This often confuses me when it comes to LOA. What would be the essential thing to do if we want to manifest one? I am in this current situation, so any great tips would be highly appreciated 🙂
Should I apply for jobs or focus on what I want and get into the feeling place without taking action?
Hi Ann,
Thanks so much for your comment.
Regarding your question, I think this podcast episode on inspired action would be of help to you.
Essentially, it’s not an either/or. It’s just the attitude you approach it with. Make your vibration the most important thing. As Abraham says, “There is nothing more important than that I feel good.”
But as you do so, the perfect jobs for you will come to you in some way. A certain job listing will catch your eye. A friend will tell you about an opening. There are infinite ways it could happen.
But when you take the action journey, without first taking the vibrational journey, usually the results won’t be exactly what you were looking for.
