You may not know this, but I have actually been playing the piano since I was five years old.
I actually went to college for music performance, at least for a while.
Okay, but what does music have to do with the law of attraction?
A lot, actually. I was thinking recently about how similar piano practice really is to using the law of attraction successfully.
The same principles apply to both quite nicely. So, I thought I’d outline those in this post.
This brings me to announcing a new section I am adding to my website. I wanted to add a music section where I post the recordings of me playing the piano.
You can find that section here:
I just posted my first recording, Brahms Rhapsody in G Minor.
Slow Down
When you are playing a piece way too quickly, all your mistakes become very apparent.
In fact, not only do they become apparent, a lot of times they get worse because you are speeding through that section of music.
And so it is with the law of attraction.
I’ve written before about the importance of going general.
When you are too specific, the energy of your manifestation speeds up.
Unfortunately, when you speed up your energy, all the resistance (the mistakes in the piano practice metaphor) get bigger.
How do you go specific?
By adding detail. By thinking or talking about exactly how this is going to happen.
As you go into detail, your energy gets faster. And your resistance gets triggered, too.
Then, you tend to be tempted to try to figure out how this is going to work.
That inclination to figure it out is a huge sign of being too specific.
So, the solution is to slow down. Go general. Don’t go into so much detail.
If your desired manifestation is to get more money, being too specific would look like trying to figure out how you are going to get this money. How can this money possibly come to you?
The more you focus on that, the worse it feels, and the more you worry about it.
When you simply let go, and allow yourself to feel the feeling of abundance, of freedom, or whatever feeling you associate with that money, then the resistance isn’t triggered anymore.
It’s just like in piano practice. When you go too fast, the mistake happens. But when you slow down, then you can get through that section without making the mistake.
You know how fast you’re supposed to practice the section by how fast you can go comfortably without making mistakes.
Similarly, you know how specific you should be based on how specific you can comfortably be without triggering your resistance.
For some people, that might be nothing more than a general feeling of peace. For others, they might be able to get a little more specific into the particular feelings this manifestation is associated with. And even others can go into some of the specifics of the manifestation, but not others.
It’s all just based on what you can do that feels good, without triggering your resistance.
Don’t Practice Resistance
So why shouldn’t you go faster than is comfortable without triggering resistance?
In piano practice, it’s commonly said, “Practice makes perfect.”
But, if you practice without avoiding mistakes in your playing, you’re just going to practice those mistakes, and it’ll be easier and easier to make those same mistakes again.
This is why you want to slow down as much as necessary to avoid making those mistakes.
When you can successfully practice it slowly, free of mistakes, then you are ingraining the correct muscle movements, and those mistakes will simply fall away over time.
The more you play it correctly, the easier it is to play it correctly.
With the law of attraction, when you practice resistance, you are just ingraining that resistance, and making it get bigger and bigger in your reality.
Abraham often gives the analogy of driving in a car at 100 MPH. If you hit a tree at 100 MPH, it’s going to hurt a lot more than if you hit the tree at 5 MPH.
The tree is your resistance, obviously.
When you’re driving at 5 MPH, you can actually more likely avoid that tree, and not hit it at all in the first place.
The resistance is your unwanted manifestation. And when you keep focusing on that resistance, by practicing it again and again, you are feeding it, allowing it to get bigger.
But if you slow down your momentum by going general, effectively circumnavigating the resistance altogether, you are then starving the manifestation.
You’re letting that resistance simply fall away, by refusing to practice it in your vibration.
Instead, you practice the wanted vibration, as specifically as you can, without triggering that resistance.
And the more you practice your wanted vibration, the easier it is to access that wanted vibration.
Don’t Force It
Piano practice should be effortless.
I’ve played for hours before without any soreness whatsoever. In fact, any kind of pain or soreness is a sign of poor practicing technique.
Sometimes in a difficult piece, I will feel a bit of pain if I am trying to play too quickly, too soon.
That’s a sign to me that I need to slow down, and work on the technique.
If it feels hard, I’m probably doing it wrong, or trying to go too fast.
With the law of attraction, I’ve mentioned again and again that it should be effortless.
If it is feeling hard, or forceful, then that is a big sign of resistance, and that your momentum is too fast.
Trying to power through despite the feeling of forcefulness is just going to make your resistance even bigger. Unfortunately this is what most people try to do, assuming that this has to be difficult.
But just like with piano, things that first appear hard really are deceptively easy, when approached in the appropriate way.
As before, the solution is to slow down, by going general.
This feeling of “forcefulness” might also be a sign that you are trying to go down the wrong path.
Usually this is a path that you really don’t want to follow, but you are trying to follow it because you feel you have to for some reason.
This is the wrong “technique”, and you’re going to feel a lot of resistance as a result.
Constantly check in with your own emotions.
Does this feel easy? Does it feel effortless? Does it feel like relief?
If so, you’re successfully moving toward your manifestation.
But if it feels forceful or difficult, or like you have to struggle, then you are moving away from your manifestation. You are making your resistance even bigger.
When You Are Ready, Go Faster
Of course, it’d be boring if you always had to practice slowly.
Eventually, your goal is to get faster. If you performed at half speed, that’d be pretty funny, and also very boring.
But, as you practice slowly, you’ll naturally feel more and more comfortable to get faster.
It might take time, but you know that eventually, you’ll be able to play it at its intended speed, at a speed that feels enjoyable yet easy for you.
With the law of attraction, if you forever stayed general, you’d get rather bored, as I mentioned in my post about the importance of being specific when it is easy to be specific.
As it gets easier to practice your wanted vibration, you naturally want to get more and more specific about your manifestation.
If you try to go too fast, then you’ll run into the issues I discussed above.
But if you keep these principles in mind, and only go as fast as feels easy and comfortable to you, then you will be increasing the momentum of your manifestation, without triggering resistance.
The more specific you are, the more enjoyable it is, if it is free of resistance.
And the entire goal is to have fun, right? So, go ahead and be specific, as long as it is easy and comfortable for you.
Make sure you practice first, by going general and accessing the wanted vibration, and then you can gradually start getting more and more specific.
Bringing It Together
I’ve been using this metaphor myself since I thought of it last week, and it’s really helped me to know when I need to slow down (go general), and when it’s okay to go faster (get more specific).
When I’m feeling resistance, I know I was focusing on something a bit too specifically that didn’t feel good to me. So, I go general, and allow my energy to purify itself of resistance naturally.
Once I’m feeling better, I gradually get more specific, and it’s so much more fun once the resistance isn’t being triggered anymore.
When you use these principles, you’ll know when to be specific, and when it’s better to go general.
You’ll also understand more why you are feeling the way you are feeling, and what you can do about it.
I enjoy metaphors like this, because I think it helps us to understand the law of attraction even more. And, when it’s a metaphor we are familiar with, like piano practice is for me, then there’s a much deeper level of understanding that can be reached as well.
How About You?
Now it’s your turn. Do you find this sort of metaphor helpful? What other metaphors do you use in your own manifestation process? Let me know what you think in the comments.

I don’t play the piano, but I still found this metaphor really easy to understand and relate to. Thanks, Brandon!
Thanks Lisa! I really appreciate it. I’m glad you understood the metaphor.
I find metaphors are very helpful for understanding how all of this works. I might post more metaphors like this in the future, if people like this sort of format.

Thank you, Brandon! Your metaphor made sense to me, too. In fact, I have played the flute, although not for a couple of decades. This helped me understand more the meaning of what my friend said a long time ago when I told her I felt like I reached a plateau in my ability to play, that I wasn’t really that good at it. She told me to get out of my own way! This opened up a big door for me to see how I can apply it in so many other areas in my life.
This is the first time I saw your site, but I will still give you my opinion that metaphors are always helpful. When you can show someone a similarity between a relatively new and less familiar concept and a concept that relates to part of their life that they are sure to understand, that makes a more stable and welcoming bridge to the lesser-known!
Thanks again, and thank you, also, for sharing your music! 🙂

Thanks so much Tolmie.
I agree about getting out of the way. And I find any practice of a musical instrument to be very similar to the law of attraction.
I say that because you have to have confidence in your own abilities. I find often that if I think of a piece as difficult, it will be difficult. But if I think of it as easy, or at least not too big of a challenge, then it won’t be so hard.
I appreciate your comments on metaphors as well. I agree they are very helpful. Glad to hear others agree. I think metaphors are a powerful means of communication, so I plan on using more in the future just like in this post.

Brandon, what an awesome post! Indeed, this metaphor is perfect!
Recently I can tell where my vibe is by noticing if I get sick. I manifest illness when I am too negative, complain too much or get too stressed. It makes sense, right?
I do not like where I am at the moment. I have tried to ease this pain and have succeeded for the most part, but now it seems I get sick when I get too angry or I focus on things I don’t like. How can I deal with this? I’m tired of getting sick, yet theses illnesses are telling me something- to change my attitude, to shift my vibe. I love being healthly and appreciate it very deeply.
I know you feel good most of the time and do not get sick. I used to be well; just lately I go nuts with where I am, kind of a hell hole in my opinion, but far from it to others. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Hi A,
Thanks so much for your comment.
You have a lot of forceful, effortful language in your comment. Any time you say you’re “tired of” something, or refer to your situation as a “hell hole”, that, to me, is pointing out a ton of resistance.
So, no surprise you are getting sick, for as you said, that’s a sign of resistance.
Usually it’s a sign of built-up resistance that has gone unnoticed.
Just work on seeing your situation in a more positive light. Work on feeling better about it, little-by-little. That’s really what this work is all about.
I’m holding a free webinar today about releasing resistance, which might help you with this issue.

Thank you Brandon. I will try to tune in. Being positive=health to me at least.
