I’ve been talking lately about the importance of surrendering to God in every area of life. It goes so much deeper than this, though.
Imagine living life as a perpetual conversation with God. Imagine if God communicated to you through your everyday experiences, and you had a sense of where God was leading you.
This would be a true experience of co-creation, wouldn’t it? You would express your own desires, and wait for God’s response. You would see God’s response through everyday experiences and intuitive flashes, and you would trust in God to orchestrate all of the details.
What would this be like? Is it even possible? Surely this level of communion isn’t possible?
God Is Already Communicating with You
If this isn’t your experience already, it’s not for lack of trying on God’s part. God is intimately aware of your every desire, your every fear, and your every limiting belief keeping you from what you want. In fact, He has been guiding you from the day you were born to greater and greater, more and more.
If you think back through your life, I’m sure you’ll find some experience that was completely random, but was the key to something wonderful in the future. For me, it was going to the university where I met my wife. The circumstances that led up to me going there seemed completely random, but now I know that it had to happen that way. God was guiding me to something greater.
Then why aren’t you aware of this conversation with God? Largely it is because you are closing yourself off to it by your focus on ego-based thinking.
The ego is that part of yourself that insists you are alone, you are powerless, and that you can be hurt. The more you entertain the ego, the deeper you enter into darkness and illusion. The more you entertain the ego, the more you are separated from consciousness of God, and subsequently, it is harder for God to reach you, too.
God is constantly trying to reach you, through intuitive flashes, random thoughts of encouragement and hope, words from others, or experiences in life. However, when you are mired in ego-based thinking, you are shut off from this communication.
Jesus (peace be upon him) is reported to have said repeatedly, “He who has ears, let him hear.” Why is this? Because most of his audience were stuck in this ego-based thinking, and were unable to hear his message, which came directly from God. Those who had ears to hear were able to have the openness to allow the message in, and to then change them from within.
However, just because you can’t hear God’s message, doesn’t mean that He has stopped communicating it. Unfortunately, it does mean that sometimes He will resort to harsher means to get the message across.
I’m reminded of the story of Pharaoh, which I think most people are familiar with. God tried to communicate with him over and over again, but he would not listen. Every time God sent a sign by means of a plague, Pharaoh would come to Moses (peace be upon him) and beg for it to stop, and promise he would let Israel go. Once the plague would stop, Pharaoh would go right back to his old behavior. Each plague was more and more severe, but still he would not listen.
Yet, Pharaoh’s wife did listen to the message. She was the one to find Moses (peace be upon him) in the river, and didn’t tell Pharaoh what she knew about his origin.
Pharaoh’s sorcerers also heard the message. Pharaoh brought together all of his sorcerers to compete with Moses (peace be upon him). When the signs that God gave to Moses clearly defeated their own, they heard the message loud and clear.
So some people listen, and some do not. But God will continue to communicate to you throughout your entire life, whether or not you hear it.
This happened for me towards the end of last year. I was having trouble trusting in God in financial matters. As a result, we had a time where we struggled a lot. It forced me to trust in God, because there was no other choice. I had no other means to get by. Of course, once I began to trust, things started to get easier.
How to Hear the Voice of God
The more you cling to your resistance, the louder God will have to yell to get your attention. It can get quite uncomfortable at times, but in the resistance is also the key to your freedom, because God always provides a way out.
That’s why practicing the law of detachment is so important. When you are able to detach from your desires, your resistance is neutralized, and you can hear God’s voice so much more clearly. Your conversation with God becomes a two-way communication, instead of God simply sending sign after sign to get your attention.
Your ego is always going to lead you away from God, while your higher self, or soul, will always lead you towards God. Fortunately, it is pretty easy to tell the two apart. Attachment is of the ego, while detachment is of the higher self. Fear is of the ego, while peace is of the higher self. The ego is restrictive, while the higher self is expansive.
Be choosey about which thoughts you listen to and believe in. If the thought is of fear, then you know that it is from the ego. If you have a thought like, “How will I have enough money to get by?” That thought is based in the ego. The higher self knows nothing of fear or lack, because it knows that God always provides for all your needs, and even more if you will allow Him.
Learning how to control your thoughts will give you the ability to strengthen the thoughts based in the higher self, while weakening the thoughts of the ego. It will allow you to slip into a place of silence and pure potentiality, wherein you can hear the voice of God.
The best way is to practice the law of pure potentiality, wherein you allow yourself to enter the silence of the higher self, beneath the thoughts that draw you into ego consciousness. As you work on simply allowing your thoughts to be what they are, and entering that place of silence, you will naturally start to feel a stronger connection with God, and you will hear the voice of God much more easily.
The more you foster this connection with God, the more you will feel a great sense of peace within. The experiences of your everyday life will also begin to transform. While negative things may happen, you will have a great sense of trust.
You will start to see the hand of God in all things. Every experience is a sign of His presence in your life. Even in the resistance, you will notice the key to your freedom, because God always provides a way out. And, once that resistance gets your attention, you will know exactly what you need to do to overcome it.
Conversation with God Increases Your Intuition
Intuition comes from having a deep connection with God. When you tap into the higher self again and again, it begins to pervade your consciousness. You begin to receive random inspirations and flashes.
When I think about what post I want to write next, I always open up to intuitive inspiration. I don’t want to write something that isn’t perfect for that time. I was originally planning on writing a post on a different topic today, but this one popped into my mind and just felt right, so I ran with it.
When you follow your intuition, which is also the voice of God, you will meet with success wherever you go in life. Your path ahead will be lit brightly. You will always know what your next step is, and you won’t worry about more than that, because God will take care of the rest.
I remember when I received the inspiration to get trained in NLP. At first, the training I had selected wasn’t a perfect match, but then, again by inspiration, I found the perfect training for me, and perfectly within my budget.
And it totally changed my life. It helped me to learn that I had much more power than I thought I did. It taught me that I had complete control over my own inner state. And it led me to start the spiritual coaching practice I have to this day.
As I’ve said before, this is a co-creation. You specify where you’d like to go, and the kinds of experiences you’d like to have, and God orchestrates all the details to help you get to the experiences which are the closest match to what you want, while also being the best possible experiences for you. I say the closest match, because sometimes what you want isn’t actually good for you, but God knows the underlying motivation of why you want that thing, and will always give you something even better.
However, it requires complete trust in God. If you try to do this yourself, you will fail. Intuition by nature relies on God to guide you along the way. You simply don’t have the big picture view to know how to get from point A to point B.
So this co-creation allows you to work with God in the perfect balance. As I’ve said repeatedly, the less you try to control things, the better they go for you. The more you let go, the more God can take over and lead you to the best experiences for you.
Deepening Your Conversation with God
Start to see every experience as a direct communication from God.
I’ve mostly applied this to negative experiences, because God is certainly in the resistance. But God is also in the good experiences. Every good thing that happens to you is God wanting to make you happy. Look at all the little things in life that make you smile, and imagine that God has sent that experience directly to you.
When you are grateful, when you acknowledge the blessings that God provides, then those things will increase. So be grateful for even the little things that happen to you.
I’ll give a small example. The other day, I was supposed to have a client at [3:30]. Christine and I were listening to an audiobook (one of our favorite hobbies), and were only 20 minutes or so from finishing the book. I was about to stop her so I could get ready for the client, but then I got a call that they would be about 15 minutes late. We had a perfect amount of time to finish listening to the book before the client arrived. I saw that as a beautiful little blessing from God, because He knew that I enjoyed reading the book and wanted to finish it.
See nothing as an accident. God is always communicating with you, through the good and bad experiences alike. The good things are His blessings, and the bad experiences are keys to your freedom, so that you can make room for more blessings in your life.
This is how I have begun to see life, and it has made life so much more magical and miraculous. I feel so close to God, because I know that He is always speaking to me.
I also always see God working in the lives of my spiritual coaching clients. Every time someone brings up some issue that is bothering them, I am aware of how God is using that experience to help them to overcome their resistance. And once they do overcome that resistance, then they’ve created an opening for greater blessings to effortlessly flow into their life.
I invite you to start changing your outlook. See everything as your perpetual conversation with God. Be thankful for the good things, and acknowledge the lesson in the bad things. Be open to the intuitive flashes that are bound to arise, and start being open to enter more and more into the silence of the higher self, for this is where pure potentiality is found. This is where there are infinite possibilities.
How About You?

I find myself talking to God ofyen. The conversations are as I would talk to anyone, but more personal. More intimate. He listens.
My problem, I’m sure, is my lack of seeing and hearing Him guide me. I have a habit of trying to do it all myself. Like a little “big girl” learning how to be independent and failing a lot.
Thanks, Brenda.
Hearing the voice of God in your life is something a lot of people seem to struggle with.
That’s why I recommend seeing every experience as a communication from God. Try it for a day and see what happens. The good things are God wanting to bless you. The negative things are God pointing out your resistance, so you can b even happier in the future.

What I have noticed is that for me, a good majority of the time, when I ask for something, save for example, a question that I want answered, and I find the answers in ways that are within the flow of life. So recently, I asked if I should approach a friend of mind with some more advanced spiritual theory. Certain things he said let me know that he is not ready, that he has no concept at this time. I have received answers to different questions over the years through random conversations, the radio, commercials, overheard conversations, and even through a title of one of your posts. I find answers everywhere. Now sometimes, I fail to trust it right away, in other words, I mainly like to process the info, to be sure of the interpretation, but the answers occur most of the time, and many times, within days or even hours, and that is if the answer does not simply come through my higher self when I ask the question. Now, one thing I’ve noticed with myself is that I will literally say, did I here that right? Then, I may check with myself to see if my ego was speaking. But usually, after communing again through meditation, then I am able to discern the answer. I am a lot better at trusting the info, but I do still like to explore it through research some just to bond with it more if necessary.
Thanks Justin. I know what you mean. Usually for me it comes through something I randomly read online, or a conversation I have with someone else. Other times it just comes through a feeling.

I still put this technique to use regularly.
